The Foodscience Antimicrobial Technology (AMT) is a proprietary solution of stabilised sodium chlorite developed by ourselves as a safe, easy to use pre-cursor for chlorine dioxide when blended under controlled conditions with an AMT activator. Chlorine dioxide is a powerful oxidising agent that kills bacteria rapidly and comprehensively by disrupting cell membranes and interfering with internal metabolic functions.

It is effective against a broad range of pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria including Listeria, Enterobacteriaceae, E. coli, Salmonella, Legionella and Pseudomonads. It can also reduce moulds, yeasts and fungi, including the control of common plant contaminants such as Pythium, Phytophthora and Erwinia. There is no known bacterial resistance to chlorine dioxide and there is no risk of promoting the growth of MRSA or similar resistant bacteria through regular use of Hydromax.

Controlled trials by an independent accredited laboratory have shown that our AMT treatment of cut lettuce at 1ppm concentration for 1 minute contact time is at least as effective at killing E. coli and other pathogenic bacteria as 50ppm chlorine derived from sodium hypochlorite under the same test conditions.
